Dear Author,

 

Thank you very much for writing for me! I'm bygoshbygolly on AO3. Below are some general details on the things I am into, and below are more specific prompts and ideas. While pretty much anything that doesn't hit my DNWs will make me happy, I think it can be pretty helpful to have something more specific than 'go wild.'

 

Likes: fairytales (both fairytale AUs and just the general tone and language), quiet intimacy, trust, loyalty, superhero AUs, deep friendships, wrong choices made for the right reasons, get-together fic, 'i hate them but it's complicated', slow burn, focusing on hands, monsters, everyday magic and magical realism, expectations vs reality, fake dating/married, awkward flirting, canon-divergence AUs, missing scenes, metaphors taken as literal

 

If you want to include sex: body worship, intercrural, teasing, frottage, fingering, oral (esp. cunnilingus), and foreplay are all A+ in my book. I am lukewarm on actual penetration but do your thing

 

DNW: A/B/O or biological imperative, rape, underage sex, major character death, pregnancy, nonconsensual surgery/body modification, hopeless endings 

 

I like gen, het, slash, and femslash. I also like unconventional formatting and style, if you want to get experimental, up-to and including IF. I don't know if the art challenge is running again this year, but it it is and you are inspired by any of my prompts, I would be absolutely delighted to receive any art!

Dungeon Meshi
Characters: Any

I love this manga! It’s so much fun; the plot is interesting and the characters are ridiculous and the humor and art is fantastic. I love how the worldbuilding is unfolding, with dungeons being a feature of the world with social and economic implications, and the magic and monsters and really, all of it. I love every single member of the main party, and the side characters are all so wonderfully distinct.

ETA: I'm all caught up on the manga, so no worries about spoilers.

I’m requesting “All” because I’d be equally delighted with worldbuilding-focused fic as I would with fic for any (or all) of the characters. I think there’s a lot of room to play, and this strikes me as the sort of canon where author self-indulgence will really shine. Shipwise, I’m interested in Marcille/Farlyn, Laius/Kabru, Senshi/Chilchak, and Laius/the entire concept of monsters. General relationship-wise, any dynamic is good! I love the canon dynamics, and I’m interested in the potential dynamics we haven’t seen.

Backstory! The Thordens- their childhood together, Farlyn at the academy, Laius failing out of the army, their initial forays into the dungeon, or starting a party together would all be great. Marcille- how did she get into studying Ancient Magic? What were her other forays into dungeon-making and dungeon ecology? She mentions her parents are court magicians- what was that like for her? How did she get involved with the party? Chilchack- rumors are he’s something akin to a mob boss- how did he get pulled into the Thorden’s party? Ditto for Namari- she’s had some scandal in her life. What was that like? Senshi- did he have a family? What was life like for him in the dungeon by himself? How did he become friends with the orcs? I love Senshi and would love to read more about him. And Kabru has had some really interesting hints dropped about his backstory- that would be awesome to read about.

Recipe!fic- This is a great canon for recipe!fic. I love how important food is and the role it plays and would love to read anything focusing on that.

Laius-as-king- The plot seems to be leading up to Laius somehow becoming king, and I feel like this could be hilarious (Laius is kind and benevolent and so, so bad at diplomacy and kingly stuff) or more serious, dealing with the politics of elves and dungeons and Laius trying to learn how to be a ruler. Possibly Kabru is running things from behind the throne? Or everyone is running (or trying to run) things from behind the throne?

Worldbuilding! If you aren’t sure what to do with characters, worldbuilding would be awesome. Especially monster, political, or ecology-based worldbuilding.


Megalobox
Characters: Nanbu Gansaku, Tatsumi Leonard Aragaki

This is one of my favorite shows this year- I loved the soundtrack and the animation and the characters. I’ve never seen Ashita no Joe, but while I know seeing it would have added layers to the show, it was a great show to watch on its own.

I loved Joe, naturally, and his rivalry with Yuri was a joy to watch. But what I’d love to see more of is Nanbu and Aragaki’s relationship. They have a whole history together, and while they pretty much reconciled, I don’t think everything is going to be happily ever after, either. There’s a lot of baggage there, both personally and between them.

I’d love to see pre-canon fic- their developing relationship (as mentor/mentee, friends, lovers, whatever), boxing matches, and any and all first times. We get hints of what Nanbu and Aragaki were like, before, and it would be great to see more of that.

When Aragaki was deployed, did he write letters to Nanbu? Ones he never sent, ones he never wrote but thought about? Did Nanbu ever do the same? I love epistolary fic.

Gang!AU- AU where both Nanbu and Aragaki work for Fujimaki? Pre-canon would work, or maybe Fujimaki has a few jobs for a veteran looking for something to do with his life? How important is Megalo boxing when you’re busy working for the mob?

Post-canon fic would also be great! They’re in very different places from where they started at the beginning of the series, and it would be interesting to see how Nanbu deals with Joe’s win, and the plans to start a new gym, and Aragaki’s relationship with the other veterans. What kind of relationship to Nanbu and Aragaki have now? What can they slip back into, and what will never be the same?

Really, anything focusing on these two would be wonderful, and the rest of the Megalo Box cast is more than welcome to show up.


Inda
Characters: Any

I missed nominations, and I was so happy to see that Inda made it in. This series has a special place in my heart. I love the worldbuilding (especially the gestures and everyday magic) and the sense of how that world is changing over the series. I also love that the Marlovans are short with no concept of fashion.

I am genuinely attached to each and every character nominated this year, and am interested in any character or character combination. I want to read anything and everything: shipfic, fic on a ship, political machinations, character studies, adventure, furious arguments and/or pining...if you already have an idea of what you want to write, go for it. My only DNW is Evred/ladies, for obvious reasons.

While I love the canon setting, I can’t let go of the idea of SPACE AU. Evred, king of a militarily powerful, yet culturally backwater planet. Fox, the space pirate. Shen and Tdor training to become planetary defenders. I think it could be really fun!

For Shen and Tdor, I’d love missing scenes from their training, and their different outlooks on life/the kingdom.

Fox and Evred meeting! Fox, especially, has such strong feelings regarding Evred. I’d love to see these two neurotic redheads meet. Especially with the specter of Inda (real or metaphorical) between them.

Post-canon fic! Tdor went to Darchelde after Inda- tell me more about her time there with Fox and Shen! What was life like for Shen and/or Fox in Darchelde? Tdor travelled after Inda’s death- I’d love to read about that. And poor Evred. I always love reading about him.

You also can’t go wrong with journal entries or letters for any character or combination of characters.

Gen or shipfic is fine, and I don’t have a ship preference (as long as Evred remains gay) because they all have the potential to be great.  Please also feel free to include any characters that weren’t nominated. The only ones I don’t want to read about are Wafri, Coco, the Sierandael, the Sierlaef, and the Venn (referencing them is totally fine).



Trial and Error
Characters: Josh Segal, Dwayne Reed, Anne Flatch, Carol Anne Keane

I recently watched this show, and I absolutely loved it. Everyone is so earnest and weird! I love Josh trying to be above it all, but getting sucked into everything because he’s just as ridiculous as they are. Dwayne is so straightforward and earnest, and Anne is absolutely delightful, and Carol Anne is so wonderfully determined. I also really enjoy how much of a character the town itself is, and the pride its residents have in it.

I don’t have as many prompts for this show as I do for my other requests, but that’s because this is the newest media I’m asking for. I simply haven’t had enough time to come up with more! I’m asking for the core four, though, because they’re my favorites. My only fandom-specific DNW is babyfic/kidfic. I’m all for baby Princess Anne, but I’d rather not read a story about the raising of said baby.

Another case! Maybe the witch-burning case referenced at the end of S2? I feel like that could be fun, or spooky, or both. Or a completely separate case, murder-based or not-murder-based.

More about East Peck! Josh being introduced to another East Peck tradition, or his first time at Pumpkinfest, or him finding out more about some of the ridiculous laws.

Conversely, maybe Josh goes back to visit New York, and naturally the team (and Carol Anne) go too. Does anyone bat an eye at Anne’s various disorders? Does Dwayne announce he won’t be taken in by tourist traps and then fall for every single one? Does Carol Anne have an incredibly awkward dinner with Josh’s family? How do they feel about not being able to get a proper East Peck bagel?

Honestly, this show is a delight, and I’d love pretty much anything for it!
