Yuletide 2017

Dear Author,

Thank you very much for writing for me! I'm bygoshbygolly on AO3. Below are some general details on the things I am into, and below are more specific prompts and ideas. While pretty much anything that doesn't hit my DNWs will make me happy, I think it can be pretty helpful to have more specific prompts/ideas than 'go wild.'

Likes: fairytales (both fairytale AUs and just the general tone and language), quiet intimacy, trust, loyalty, superhero AUs, deep friendships, wrong choices made for the right reasons, get-together fic, 'i hate them but it's complicated', slow burn, focusing on hands, monsters, everyday magic and magical realism, expectations vs reality, fake dating/married, awkward flirting, canon-divergence AUs, missing scenes, metaphors taken as literal

If you want to include sex: body worship, intercrural, teasing, frottage, fingering, oral (esp. cunnilingus), and foreplay are all A+ in my book. I am lukewarm on actual penetration but do your thing

DNW: A/B/O or biological imperative, rape, underage sex, major character death, pregnancy, nonconsensual surgery/body modification, hopeless endings

I like gen, het, slash, and femslash. I also like unconventional formatting and style, if you want to get experimental, up-to and including IF. Also, I see there's an art challenge this year, so if you find yourself inspired to create art for any of my fandoms/prompts, I would absolutely love that!

Inda series- Sherwood Smith
Characters: Any

This series has a special place in my heart. I love the worldbuilding, especially the things like gestures and the everyday magic that addresses long-held problems of civilization (sewage, population control) and the effects of that magic on how cultures developed. I also love that the Marlovans are short with no concept of fashion.

I selected "Any" because I am genuinely attached to each and every character nominated this year. There is no wrong character or character combination! I want to read anything and everything with these characters: shipfic, fic on a ship, political machinations, character studies, adventure, furious arguments and/or pining...if you already have an idea of what you want to write, go for it.

If you would like some prompts, here goes:sci-fi AU (so much of the series would work in space as well. Imagine fire ships IN SPACE. Iasca-Leror as the militarily powerful, yet culturally backwater planet), missing scenes on the ship or at the Academy, what if Tau knew about his family from the start?, journal entries/letters from one or several of the characters, divided loyalties, Fox and Evred meeting, more Joret & Tau interacting, Jeje as captain, Inda trying to reconcile his ship life with his Marlovan life with Tau acting as intermediary, Fox and Inda's missing year after Wafri, the Queen's training, Joret trying to explain the Marlovans to other people.

Gen or shipfic is fine, and I don’t have a ship preference (as long as Evred remains gay) because they all have the potential to be great. Threesomes/moresomes A-OK. Please also feel free to include any characters that weren’t nominated. The only ones I don’t want to read about are Wafri, Coco, the Sierandael, the Sierlaef, and the Venn (referencing them is totally fine).

Bartimaeus Trilogy- Jonathan Stroud
Characters: Bartimaeus, Kitty Jones, Ptolemy

I, like at least three other people, gently weep every time I read Ptolemy's Gate. I love the series as a whole, but Ptolemy's Gate hits so many things that I love, with the team-up between Bartimaeus and Kitty, the Gate, the look into Bartimaeus and Ptolemy's relationship...so good.

I'm not going to lie, I ship the three of them. I love the fierce idealism of Ptolemy and Kitty, combined with Bartimaeus' cynicism and begrudging affection. I think they'd be great together if, you know, they weren't separated by 2,000 years, a separate dimension, and Ptolemy being dead. If you can finagle a way to write OT3 fic for them, I would be absolutely over the moon.

Other possible ideas: Ptolemy, Kitty, and Bartimaeus meeting in the Other Place, thanks to the mutability of time. Bartimaeus thinking about Ptolemy and Kitty and what it would be like if they met properly. Ptolemy gets resurrected, somehow, and chaos ensues. Alternatively, Kitty travels back in time, somehow, and chaos ensues.

I'm really interested in the dynamic between these three characters- their similarities and differences and goals. Also, Ptolemy being dead is kind of a big deal for Bartimaeus, so the 'no major character death' is handwaved for this.

Ballroom e Youkoso
Characters: Hiyama Chinatsu, Koumoto Akira

I love the girls in this series! I love Chinatsu's arrogance and skill, and how she's learning how to compromise. I loved seeing Akira's backstory, and how she seems to be taking steps forward. Their relationship is fascinating and kind of tragic- Chinatsu hurt Akira, and it escalated into the two of them trying to hurt each other while also not being able to leave it alone. They have a history together! Akira still loves Chinatsu!

I ship them, but boy, do they have some baggage to work through first.

I'd love to read something about them working through that baggage, either becoming friends again or falling in love. I'd love to read about Akira realizing she loves Chinatsu. I'd absolutely love future-fic about the two of them, having come to some sort of understanding and starting out on a romantic relationship. Anything that explores the leader/partner dynamic would be great. And AUs! Space opera AUs, fantasy AUs, fairy-tale AUs...anything along those lines would be great.

Hungry Daughters of Starving Mothers- Alyssa Wong
Characters: Any

This is my favorite short story, and I've read it so many times I've lost track. It's wonderfully creepy and atmospheric and fraught, and the last scene! It's amazing.

After seeing the character list, I selected 'Any' because they're all great and I don't want to hold someone to any one combination of characters. They're all ripe with possibility!

I'd love to read more about Jen and Aiko, whether it be pre-canon fic with Jen realizing how tantalizing Aiko's thoughts are, or post-canon fic where she's managed to bring Aiko back. Does something go wrong? How do they continue, after what happened at the party? Or a fic from Aiko's point of view- she's known about Jen and Seo-Yun for a while, and Jen never knew. What was that like, catering for that sort of clientele, and being friends with Jen? I'd also love to read more about Jen and Seo-Yuns time together- the parties and the freedom Jen felt, at least at the beginning. And Ma! What is her history, and how does she feel about her daughter? How does she feel about Jen and Aiko's relationship? We get hints, but I'd love a character study.

I ship Jen/Aiko and would love to read Jen/Seo-Yun (or...Aiko/Seo-Yun? What would that be like?). Feel free to get absolutely weird and dark with this fandom. I still wouldn't like a hopeless ending, but something bittersweet or open the way the canon is would be a-ok. Just let your imagination run wild! I love this short story and want to read fic for it. This is a fandom where I'd be interested in smut as part of the story.

Queenpin- Megan Abbott
Characters: Gloria Denton, The Girl

I love the way Megan Abbott writes prickly women in complicated relationships, and this book is great for that. From the beginning ('I want the legs'!) to the end, I was super invested in the relationship between Gloria and the narrator. I loved the half-hero worship, half-resentment on the side of the narrator, and Gloria taking her under her wing in a proprietary sort of way.

What I'd really like for this story is canon-divergent fic. Whether that be canon-divergent where Vic never appears, or canon-divergent where he's a one-night stand, or anything along those lines, is up to you. I want to see what would have happened if Vic had never come between the narrator and Gloria; what they would have done. Do they work together to double cross their bosses and rise to the top? Does the narrator chafe at being Gloria's second-in-command and grab her own turf? How would Gloria's plans for the narrator have played out? What about the arrangement- would anything have changed if Gloria and the narrator stayed together?

I definitely ship Gloria/The Girl, complicated and messy as it is, and would be very interested in smut for this pairing..
